Dive report about 2 dives at Hoi An Vietnam 05-08-2019
I did my diving with Bleu Coral Diving, a large diving school in Hoi An. They have their own boat and equipment. The owner is Steve Reid, he has been in Vietnam for more than 10 years owning his own dive center. His staff is well trained and very friendly.
You can make reservations in advance and tell the staff your wishes.
The first dive was at Hoi an North, a dive place near the Cham Islands.
Water temperature was 31 ̊ C, the ocean was calm and the weather was cloudy. Max depth 16,1 meter
Underwater was nice but not very special, till 20 years ago the locals did use dynamite for fishing so most of the coral has been destroyed. It is good to see that the coral is recovering and improving every year. During the dive we saw, featherstars, clownfish and some nudibranches.
My second dive was about 200 meter north from the first spot.
This place was quite similar with the first place, biggest difference was that the corals were more beautiful. Here we spotted a large jelly fish with very long tentacles.
Water temperature was still the same with 31 ̊C. weather was still cloudy max depth 13 meter.
On an all, diving in Hoi An is nice but not very exciting. The coral is recovering from years of dynamite fishing. The underwater life is improving and there is a lot to see. But compared to for instance Egypt or Indonesia, it is less colorful and surprising.
On the other hand, the weather is nice, dive center is good and professional, the food in Hoi An is extremely good and the water is clear, so enough reasons to make at least a few dives at Hoi An with Bleu Coral diving.
