2016, July 30: 3 dives at Nusa Penida, Bali. |
After Amed my next 3 dives were at Sanur (Nusa Penida). The dives were organised by divingschool Atlantis. Owned by 2 French people, known as a very good diving school. My dive buddy this time was the nice Scotsman Ross Merrin.
I had heard about the Mola Mola and we were anxious to find this fish. The biggest chance to spot one is at Crystal bay. When we arrived we experienced a strong current and the water temperature was 28 C, which is a bit too warm for the mola mola. We stayed at the reef at 20 meters for more than 20 minutes staring in the blue for the Mola Mola but it did not show up, too bad. On our way back we had to swim against the current, which was quiet hard to do. On the way back I spotted a nice black nudibanche, which I had never seen before. A small compensation..
Our second dive was at Manta point. Here you are supposed to see a lot of manta rays. The visibility was disappointing, only about 5 metres. After 40 minutes we spotted our first and only manta, which was a bit disappointing.
Our third dive was also at Manta point. Hoping too see more mantas. And we did Yeah!! even though they were hard to find because of the bad visibility. I made some nice videos and pictures.
Keep on diving!!!!

2016, July 25: 3 dives at Amed, Bali.
After 4 dives at Pemuteran I went to Amed, a small town in the North East of Bali. My first dive was at Bonotan. It started at Eel garden, a place where lots of eels come out of the sand like snakes. I also spotted a blue and yellow Murray eel.The next dive was at the same place, where I saw the whitetip reefshark. Yeah!!.
The third dive was at a Japanese wreck. A wreck which started at 7 metres going down to 15 metres. Full of live and different marine species; this is where I found the pygmee seahorse. Very small, about 1 cm.A school of catfish was also spotted under a reef. A very nice dive.
The next day I guided two snorkelers around at the housereef near our hotel. Most of this reef has been destroyed, but about 75 metres off shore there is still something nice to be seen. We saw pufferfish, trumpetfish and as a bonus a school of tuna of over 200. A very awesome sight indeed.

2016, 21 July and 23 July, 4 dives at Menjangan Island
Bali divesite: Tangan, Menganjan, part of the Bali National Park
My first dive at Bali organised by the local dive centre of our hotel Naya Gawana with a private guide to the first dive site. We went to 20 metres. Menjangan is a nature reservation area and protected area. Too bad lots of Coral have been destroyed. As you may know it takes years for the Coral to recover.
There is nevertheless still a lot to be seen. Nudibranches, lobstermantis, frogfish, and nice sealife.
The second dive was at Maddy's Corner in nice clear water. I saw a pretty lionfish, a lot of nudibranches, shot a movie of 2 nudibranches mating, which was awesome to see.
On July 23, I made two more dives at Menjangan Island. This time close to the island at Anchor wreck. Here I saw a yellow scorpionfish, again nudibranches, clown fish and nice gorgones, a wonderful dive. The next dive ( together with my new German friends) was at Peti Reef. Wonderful dive, a big grouper, and school of squid made this dive extra special.
